5” Diamond Disk

This item was originally produced for sharpening miniature tools as a white wheel grinder was proving rather aggressive for such small section tools.  Initially produced 6mm thick, it is now available 11mm thick with diamond coating on the edge surfaces too.

In practice it was found to be useful for sharpening both large and small turning tools as well as many other items for instance all types of drills including tungsten carbide.

Initially   it was thought that the disk would have to be used at a low revs per minute but up to 1500 RPM should be OK according to the experts as long as light pressure is employed.

Water can be used as a coolant but care needs to be taken to dry the disk after use. An alternative very light honing oil developed for honing with diamonds is now available and does a very good job .

Terry Porter reviewed the disk in WOODTURNING issue 121 March 2003 and was very complimentary .
