Diamonds are a Tormek's best friend.
8” Diamond
Wheel for Tormek and other
Wet
Wheel Grinders.
This wheel came into
production about three years ago, I had just produced a stainless steel credit
card coated with Industrial Diamonds Fine on one side and Medium on the other
when someone said to me why not do a wheel for the Tormek.
After about three months
the prototype was finished and approved by Phil Irons who wrote an article
about it in WOODTURNING.
We made it 8” so that it
would fit both model Tormeks although it requires a few minor alterations to
fit the small models.
The big advantage is that
it stays flat all the time, never needs dressing and will last a lot longer
than the soft composite wheel.
After the first six months
I altered the size of the centre boss and it can now be bored out to suit most
of the wet 8” wheel grinders on the market.
The diamond coated surface
is 2” wide, the steel band is nickel plated, then coated in diamonds then
nickel plated again to bury the diamonds by two thirds. This is a very precise
process as we are dealing with 25/30 micron diamonds.
